Work has been proceeding painfully slowly. There are issues, ahem, with people who are not yet completing work they have been paid to complete. This fence is one of few signs of progress, and was constructed by Bob, the homeless man who works for my father now and again.

Going Green in a Recession
Here is a link to a NY Times piece that nicely discusses the dilemmas of people who want to do green renovations, but have to consider the cost of such renovations.

Tillary Street Canyon
With the stalled construction site next door, the view from my backyard has a southwestern feel. The large hole in the ground is now overgrown with wild shrubs and small trees. If you can erase the skyline in back, and the fence running down the center of the lot, you might think you were in a southwestern canyon.

The Case of the Vanishing Contractor
It's been over a week and the contractor is nowhere to be found. He was supposed to be at the house on Monday to work on the middle balcony, but did not show. He's now saying he will work on the house on Tuesday. I really, really don't want to have to deal with a contractor that's MIA. Let's hope he shows up next week. Ugh.

Fence Me In
Next door to the house is a stalled construction site which contains a large hole in the ground surrounded by debris. The fence surrounding it is unstable. So, we have started constructing a fence to remove the hole in the ground and falling fence from view. Phoebe (pictured above) needs to have a secure place to roam, too.
